Total Backyard Wrestling is a backyard wrestling internet based federation founded in 2008 and located in the United Kingdom. Originally based in England, TBW was bought over and moved to Scotland under a new management with a new roster.

The federation has ties to Ultimate British Wrestling (UBW) and SNW Wrestling (SNW) in the UK.

History

England Era

TBW was formed in England by underground wrestlers Ry and Alex Harte. The two decided to create a backyard wrestling federation after gaining a successfully large amount of views over a series of 4 YouTube videos, highlighting a wide variety of executed wrestling moves on the ground. Furthermore, the duo hired fellow wrestlers that performed in the wrestling move series: Josh, Calum, Sam and referee Chris to participate in TBW. Total Backyard Wrestling shortly hired Tank after the first episode; who helped innovate the show with massive effect. Masked wrestlers Halias and Lucas were introduced to add a complete variety to the product. TBW had now found its self and earned a huge fan base internationally, mostly in the U.S.A. The fans loved the comedy of TBW which stood out from any other backyard wrestling company, but also combined excitement that lead to an addiction and obsession of the weekly running shows. Total Backyard Wrestling interacted very closely with their fans and created an online family. The schedule was laid out in a classic wrestling pattern with 3 or 4 weekly shows (TBW-Carnage which eventually became TBW-FullForce) and a FreePerView every month which was hyped overwhelmingly with effect. The product grew and grew with popularity which if did not differ, would have lead to phenomenal success and possibilities. However, TBW eventually came across its first bump on the way to its demise when Ry no longer wished to participate in the company and the show had to change location without him. Ry eventually returned but TBW was now situated in a different location and did not hold the same atmosphere. Josh decided to retire from wrestling due to not wishing to hurt his back and Sam and Calum hated wrestling more and more as the history grew, making matches and entertainment poor. Even though the company was slowly dying with constant account changes and arguments, TBW staged its biggest event with Backyard Supremacy and gave out one of the best underground wrestling shows of the year and a truly remarkable landmark in backyard wrestling history. Although the show appeared to save TBW, it in fact was a further spiralling demise as co-owner Alex Harte saw Total Backyard Wrestling as a minor company compared to Ultimate British Wrestling and did no longer get the same thrills from TBW as he now did from UBW. As a result, he no longer had any passion for TBW, as neither did Sam, Calum or Chris (Chris who decided to retire). Backyard Supremecy lead to TBW having a talent exchange program with (now defunct) Ultimate British Wrestling where Ry and Alex Harte would go on to perform on their Free-Per-View events as well as UBW stars such as Jonny Magnum, Swinnbad and Mr Insaneo appearing on their TBW shows, as far to the point as Swinnbad winning their 24/7 Championship. TBW would run in England for 2 years, with the company going on indefinite hiatus with failed 'rebirths' throughout 2010 because of many individual reasons. Alex Harte no longer had any passion for the company. Sam was fired due to just messing around when wrestling. Calum did not wish to wrestle at all and simply gave up in matches so was also promptly fired. Josh returned to wrestle but by this time it was far too late and his previous retirement was one of the causes of this. The roster did not have enough wrestlers to wrestle as masked participants Hypnosis, Halias and Lucas. Tank disappointingly wished to not wrestle any more and even more disappointingly did not even want to record the action because he got 'bored'. Swinnbad was fired due to an extreme feud and argument with Ry in UBW. InsaneO and Jonny Magnum no-showed taping's so were gave up on. Finally, the end may never have came if Ry did not quit original era in the first place. This left just Ry, Josh, Alex Harte and Violent Vicky (Ry's girlfriend) as active participants on the roster, who would also control the masked wrestlers and this was not nearly enough wrestlers to continue so Total Backyard Wrestling was put up for sale.

The Buyover - New TBW

On 23rd October 2010, The Empire, a faction of British wrestlers led by wealthy investors, bought over TBW along with HomeGrown Extreme Wrestling and Nairn Wrestling Entertainment as part of their 'UKBYW Conquest'. TBW was now moved to Inverness, Scotland and had a completely new roster and booking team supplied, allowing for a completely new TBW. Ry and Alex Harte have both expressed intent in coming to wrestle for the new side of the promotion. TBW look to hold one episode of TBW - Full Force before beginning the winter off-season.
