The HGEW World Heavyweight Championship was introduced on the first episode of BAW, ''BAW: The First Show'' in Nairn, Scotland on July 23, 2008. High Voltage Hardie won the championship at this event. The belt was originally designed to be defended every show, but this rule was phased out due to Hardie having problems wih fatigue. One final rule was added to the championship, which was the old TNA rule, that the championship will change hands on disqualification.
